Where is Beech Mountain, NC?
Beech Mountain is located deep in the Blueridge Mountains between Boone, NC and Johnson City, TN. You can get to Beech Mountain for a winter weekend getaway easily by traveling to Banner Elk, NC and taking Hwy 184N to the top of the mountain. The scenic drive to the top of the mountain is one of the most beautiful drives in North Carolina and once you reach the top, you won’t be able to miss the town of Beech Mountain, NC right at the peak of the mountain!
What is there to do during the winter at Beech Mountain?
Beech Mountain, NC has many winter activities including snow skiing, snowboarding, sledding, tubing, and ice skating.
Skiing and Snowboarding
If you are a skier or snowboarder there is over a dozen well groomed snowy trails for you to check out at Beech Mountain Resort. Take the lift all the way to the top of the mountain and you will be over 5500 ft above sea level where on a clear day you can see a beautiful view of the BlueRidge Mountains! Do you like terrain parks? Beech Mountain Resort has two, along with four restaurants, two shops, and a full rental facility.
Sledding
If you would like a cheaper alternative to skiing or snowboarding, you can make your way to the top of the mountain near the town hall where you will find an area just for tubing and sledding! This area is FREE of charge and is a great activity for younger kids and even the kids who still think they are young! Didn’t bring your sled? Travel just past the sledding hill where you will find Fred’s General Mercantile that usually has sleds available to purchase as long as they are not sold out. Be sure to tell them where you found out about the store!
Ice Skating
Located right in the center of the Beech Mountain Resort is the outdoor ice skating rink. Didn’t bring your ice skates? Don’t worry, there is a fully stocked rental facility right beside the rink that has just your size! After your done, stop into the cafe and grab a cocoa and watch others slide along the ice.
Snow Tubing
Watch from the View Haus as your kids slid down the specialty designed snow tubbing run at Beech Mountain Resort. There is only one catch to this fun activity, you must be 48″ or taller. Sorry, no little kids.
