It’s about 9pm Saturday night and it has been a looong day!
We ended up leaving Morganton, NC around 7pm Friday afternoon for our South Florida Three Day Getaway. After work we came home and quickly threw some clothes in a bag, we were so excited to be heading to Florida again!! I drove into the night and somewhere around 2:30am this morning we decided we would stop for some much needed rest before continuing our trip further South. We checked into a small hotel in St. Augustine, FL right off 95 and got a few hours sleep before heading further South towards I4 to visit our friends in Orlando.
We have been talking about coming to Florida for a long time, and one of the reasons we wanted to come was to see our family friends, the Leo’s who live right outside Orlando. The Leo’s have been friend’s of our family for many years and with life’s busy schedule, it has been hard to come see them almost 10 hours away from our home in Morganton, NC. One of the Leo daughter’s, Laura Jean, was having a birthday party for her daughter Brooke who was turning 6 today! We were so excited to see everyone and get to participate in Brooke’s birthday celebration complete with bounce house in the back yard!! Happy Birthday Brooke!! After staying at the birthday party and visiting for several hours before we said our good byes to everyone and continuing our trip West on I4 towards Tampa.
At 7:05 and 43.45 seconds we arrived at our final destination, Sanibel Island!! As we crossed the bridge onto the island we noticed a sign ahead that informed us of the $6 toll that is required to enter the island. This might just be the best $6 I have ever spent so far!! I never read anywhere about this $6 toll though, so it was kinda unexpected. It’s ok though, so far it has been completely worth it!
In typical two day getaway fashion, we had no hotel reservations before leaving home, and were planning on “winging it”. While traveling from Orlando to Sanibel, Telisha was working her smart phone magic and came across a quaint little cottage and after speaking with the friendly front desk clerk, she booked the last room in the Anchor Inn & Cottages for two nights that they saved just for us, they must have known we were coming! We got the room at a steal at only $59 a night and I will post pictures and a hotel review very soon! Let me just tell you this though, the rate is unheard of on Sanibel Island and the Inn is like our own little little tropical oasis!
